Selena Gomez is an amazing woman! This fantastic artist is such an inspiration, and I’m sure many of you love blasting her music while you work out! :)
Selena does such a good job of being a positive role model. She’s been through her share of challenges, but she always shows up and pushes through her struggles.
I’ve loved learning more about how she stays healthy and takes her of herself and I hope you’re going to like it too!
Selena works with celebrity trainer Amy Rosoff Davis, who helps her with her workouts, lifestyle, and diet.
Amy doesn’t believe that any of her clients should restrict ingredients unless medically necessary. She wants them to eat nutritious meals that are satisfying and healthy, but she recognizes that part of enjoying life can be eating a tasty meal or treat.
Selena seems to follow this advice. She is a healthy eater, but she doesn’t deprive herself of food that she loves (like ice cream!) either.

Selena doesn’t deprive herself, but she still tries to pick healthy options whenever possible.
On tour, it is easy for Selena to want to grab Tex-Mex meals (her favourite!) or other fast food options. Instead, she has to remember to stick to carrots and hummus or other healthy snacks!
Selena really focuses on balance when it comes to her diet. Here are a few of the things that she does to try to be mindful about what she eats:
Selena likes to make sure she always has these foods on hand at home and on the road:
Selena starts every morning with a shot. No, she isn’t drinking Tequila. :) Instead, Selena takes a shot of ginger!
Ginger is known for its ability to help boost your metabolism. It also can help you feel full and reduce your appetite.
After waking up with ginger, it is time for a real meal. Selena loves Tex-Mex, and one of her favourite morning meals is inspired by burrito bowls. She eats a bowl of:
Sometimes she’ll have full-fat Greek yogurt with granola instead.
Both of these options are full of protein, fat, and carbohydrates, giving Selena plenty of energy to make it through a busy morning!

For lunch, Selena likes to make a salad with greens, turkey, beans, and avocado. She also makes a homemade dressing of red wine vinegar, olive oil, dijon mustard, and lemon juice.
On tour, Selena likes a chicken salad with grapes and celery. The dish helps keep her hydrated while also providing a lot of needed protein.
Dinner is inspired by Asian cuisine. She loves teriyaki bowls with marinated cucumber, avocado, and salmon or chicken over a bowl of rice.
Selena also loves sushi and likes to eat it often!
Selena has been open about her struggles with lupus, an autoimmune disease that attacks healthy tissue and organs in the body. In 2017, Selena underwent a kidney transplant due to the illness.
Thankfully, Selena reports that she is doing better. However, she still has to take it easy. She announced that she may not go on tour this year, which may mean she isn’t feeling 100% well yet.
Selena’s been so amazing about the way she’s handled her illness. Obviously, she needs to take extra care of her body, and some extreme exercise routines could put her body under more stress than necessary. This is her workout routine when she is feeling good:
Selena works out with Amy, the same trainer who handles her diet. Amy prioritizes putting Selena through interval and circuit training.
This training style is very common for celebrities (and a lot of my workouts are this format too!). Interval training is a great way to burn lots of calories in a very short amount of time.
Amy, Selena’s PT, also understands that it is important to listen to your body. This is absolutely essential if you have any health problems, but it is a good practice no matter what.
Some days, Selena will push through a hard workout. But, other days, she just needs to keep it easy with yoga and stretching. So, Amy always tells her to pay attention to how she’s feeling each day and to adjust her activities accordingly.
In general, most of Selena’s workouts combine cardio intervals (think jump ropes, burpees, or runs) with yoga-like stretches. This helps Selena’s body build endurance while also toning her muscles.
However, Amy doesn’t want Selena to get into a rut either. Selena also loves Pilates, hiking, spinning, and dance cardio. She likes to switch through different exercises throughout the week.
Whatever the exercise is, they never forget stretching afterward. Selena makes sure to take time to cool down and stretch after every workout.
This approach helps keep Selena in the gym working out on a regular basis. Amy doesn’t want her to be bored. In general, Selena tries to do some form of cardio for 30 minutes four days a week. She does stretching or yoga six days a week.
Selena increased her workout intensity when training for the “Revival” tour. She was in the gym every day for about two hours at a time!
Over the years, we’ve seen Selena experience heartbreak, go through intense health challenges, and just go through the normal challenges that women face. And look at her now! ;)
I love the way that Selena priorities her health and self-improvement while loving herself along the way. She’s a wonderful example for all of her fans!
Love Rachael xx
