Healthy Mars Bar Slice
This healthy mars bar slice is to die for! Literally one of my favourite recipes :) I hope you enjoy it xx
BASE INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup almonds
- 14 fresh medjool dates
- 1 scoop Shape Health protein superfood (can omit – if not using, you will not need to add water)
- 1 tbsp cacao powder
- 3 tbsp water
FILLING INGREDIENTS
- 1 can coconut cream
- 8 fresh medjool dates
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 tsp cacao powder
- 1 pinch salt
TOPPING INGREDIENTS
- 3 tbsp melted coconut oil
- 3 tbsp cacao powder
- 3 tbsp rice malt syrup (or sweetener)
METHOD
- Blend almonds in a food processor and add remaining ingredients (besides water) and blend well.
- Add water 1 tbsp at a time until it starts to stick together. You want it to be sticky but still a little crumbly.
- Press into the base of a pan and put in the freezer
- Heat all filling ingredients in a saucepan over a low heat (this make take up to 20 minutes), stirring continuously. When all the dates have melted and it starts thickening, this is when it is ready.
- Allow to cool and then pour over the base. Put in freezer for 1 hour.
- Mix topping ingredients in a small bowl and pour over the slice.
- Allow to set in the freezer for at least 3 hours before cutting.
- Store in the freezer and remove 5-10 minutes before serving.
Makes 12 slices.

Is it like a ice cream?
Kind of, I guess! xx
What size pan would be required for this recipe?
Looks amazing, can’t wait to try your recipe.
Thanks!
Hi Beth! It was about 21 x 8cm :) xx
Hi! I’m wondering if you chopped or pureed the dates before melting them. Also did you use a can of coconut milk using only the cream once separated? Thank you! Can’t wait to make this!
Hi Andrea, I just chopped up the dates using kitchen scissors. And I used the whole can of coconut cream, but coconut milk would also work :) I hope you enjoy it! xx
I had trouble with the topping I melted the coconut oil & added it to the other ingredients I couldn’t get it to combine the coconut oil separated from the other ingredients any advice
Hi Lyn, I’ve never had these troubles. I melted my coconut oil so that it was a complete liquid (not just soft) and stirred it really well. If you let it sit, it might separate. So I would stir it really well and then pour it straight on :) xx
Thank you for your response
Hi Rachel, What size tin of coconut cream do you use? 270ml or 400ml?
I used a 400mL tin xx
hi there
I made this today but my middle has not set in the freezer and its been in there 2 hours. can this be fixed?
thanks
Hi! Yes just freeze a little longer and it should be OK :) x
Hi Rachael,
What size tin do you use? :)
So I just made this and, oh my goodness, IT WAS CRAZY GOOD! It legitimately tastes like a Mars bar without all the bad ingredients (sugar, flour etc.) Thanks for the beyond yummy recipe!!!!!
That’s great to hear! You’re most welcome :)
How many calories per serving?
Hi Jen,
If you cut it into 12 pieces here are the calories and macros.
Calories – 327
Carbs – 48.3g
Fat – 15g
Protein – 5.5g
I actually cut the pieces in half as they are quite large so it would be half the calories ;)
