#213 My 7 Day Detox

diet or exercise

I know how it feels after a bad weekend (or even a bad week or two!) where you feel like you just need to detox and do something drastic to get back to healthy ASAP. Or you may have just completely fallen off the bandwagon and need to get back on track.

The thing about detoxing is that your body is actually pretty awesome at removing toxins on it’s own, so there is not really a need for a typical “detox” to flush out your body. Your body is doing that for you 24/7.

Most detoxes out there at the moment will see you drinking juices or teas and feeling hungry and weak. This will most likely do more damage than good and quick fixes like this are NOT the way to go! I’m a huge DISBELIEVER of those skinny teas. I’ve also read really bad stories about people ending up in hospital from drinking these and living on juices.

SO HOW DO I DETOX?

My detox is not low calorie, but as you will be filling up on all of the good stuff, you are more likely to eat less calories anyway. My detoxes consist of removing the following:

  • SUGAR (besides fruit) – THIS IS KEY IN MY DETOX
  • Food that comes out of a packet or bottle – absolutely nothing allowed!
  • Grains
  • Dairy
  • Stimulants such as coffee and green tea (obviously no energy drinks or soft drink)
  • Alcohol / cigarettes (not that I have these anyway)
  • Added salt

WHAT IS ALLOWED ON MY DETOX?

  • Plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables (not juices)
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Chicken and fish
  • Some red meat
  • No processed meat (that includes bacon)
  • Some eggs

OTHER THINGS YOU SHOULD DO ON YOUR DETOX

I know this probably goes without saying, but you should drink 3L of water per day. Yes 3L! Just keep on drinking. I also exercise every single day, even if it’s not super high intensity. Any form of exercise will make you feel great and you are more likely to stick to the nutrition part of the detox. So do something every day, even if it’s just a walk.

If you really want to go all out, also make sure you get 8 hours of sleep every single night and minimize stress. Just relax!

Sounds pretty straight forward right? I challenge you to try it! You will 100% amazing I guarantee it :)
