By now you should know: I love learning more about how models, actresses, and other public figures exercise, eat, and keep themselves healthy.

Salma Hayek is one of these women! She’s an American-Mexican actress and model who is incredibly beautiful. She’s also been nominated for an Oscar, is a mother of a young girl, and is an entrepreneur. Clearly, she’s accomplished.

At 54, Salma is older than some of the other women I’ve written about, but because she takes good care of herself, she’s in fantastic shape. Check out this photo that she shared on her birthday!

Here’s what Salma does to stay fit and healthy!

SALMA HAYEK’S DIET

JUICE CLEANSES

When Salma has a big event to go to or she simply wants to restart her dieting habit, she likes to go through a juice cleanse for 3-5 days.

She says juicing is like meditation for her. It helps her refresh after a period of bad eating. Salma is prone to emotional eating. She turns to food when she’s stressed (which is easy to do!). She says that a diet like a juice cleanse helps give her the motivation to eat healthily and figure out why she is emotional.

Salma says she loved drinking fresh juice in Mexico, but she couldn’t find the same quality of juice in Los Angeles. She started her own juice cleanse company called Cooler Cleanse, and she uses these juices periodically to restart her diet.

I respect Salma’s choice to do juice cleanses. Obviously, she feels like this works for her! However, juice cleanses aren’t a very effective way to lose weight, and they can also cause digestive problems and other negative side effects.

If you want to learn more about my thoughts on the pros and cons of juice cleanses, read this article. As always, make sure to talk to a doctor if you’re considering a major diet change! :)

SHE PUTS FEW RESTRICTIONS ON HER DIET

Other than the occasional juice cleanse, Salma doesn’t put restrictions on her diet. She enjoys food, and she wants to be able to eat what she wants when she wants it.

However, she does say that she keeps a regular eye on her weight. Salma is a curvy woman (she’s an Endomorph body type), and she says that she doesn’t need to be skinny. But, if she notices the scale is going too high, she cuts out alcohol and rich foods for a while until her weight drops again.

In general, Salma prefers to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and organic products. She doesn’t like to eat a lot of sugar on a regular basis, and she prefers a glass of red wine instead of dessert.

SHE DRINKS JUICE EVERY DAY

Salma credits her good looks, great skin, and hourglass shape mostly to good luck and good genetics. But she also says that all the antioxidants she drinks every day help to look bright and youthful.

She mixes the following ingredients together to make a healthy, antioxidant-rich juice:

  • 2-3 carrots
  • 1 apple
  • 1/2 beetroot
  • 1/4 peeled lemon

Salma’s enjoyed this drink for the past 15 years. That’s commitment!

SALMA HAYEK’S WORKOUT ROUTINE

Salma doesn’t love to exercise, and she’s been pretty open about that fact. She prefers to monitor her bodyweight through her diet, instead of her workout habits.

Over the years, however, Salma has needed to workout for different film roles or to simply stay in shape. Here are some of the things that she has done.

SHE WORKS OUT WITH A PERSONAL TRAINER

At times, Salma has worked out with personal trainer Sara Sheats. Sara is also the owner of Ugi Fit.

According to Sara, Salma really pushes herself with her workouts. Together, they came up with a routine that Salma could do anywhere — in her house, at a hotel, or in the gym. Salma travels a lot, and it is important that her workouts are accessible.

Under Sara’s guidance, Salma would work out 5 times a week for about 30 minutes each session. She would do different exercises like kickboxing, Pilates, and ball work.

Sara recommends that people exercise frequently in shorter workouts, and Salma liked this approach. She prefers shorter, intense workouts to long, drawn-out ones. A lot of her workouts are HIIT or interval-based.

Here’s one of the workouts that Sara did with Salma:

  • Burpees – 1 minute
  • Alternating pushups – 1 minute
  • Plank – 1 minute
  • Jump squats – 1 minute
  • Tricep dips – 1 minute
  • Sit-ups – 1 minute

Cycle through this workout several times. Make sure to warm up beforehand and stretch after you’re finished.

Also, keep in mind that workouts like burpees and squats could cause bulkiness in some female body types. If you prefer a slimmer look but you enjoy interval training, try this HIIT workout that won’t add unwanted bulkiness.

SHE ENJOYS PILATES

Salma does enjoy doing Pilates, and she attends classes when she can. Pilates can be an excellent way to keep your body toned and lean.

It’s also a good way to keep your spine healthy and strong. Salma wants to maintain good posture, especially when she’s in films or out in public, and Pilates can be a good way to strengthen your core and improve your posture.

WALKING HER DOGS

Salma loves animals, and she is a leading animals-rights activist. She owns lots of pets, and she considers dog walking to be one of her most regular forms of exercise.

I think walking is an excellent way to exercise, especially if your goal is to get lean and toned legs.

SHE CARES ABOUT HER POSTURE

Salma hasn’t always had the time or motivation to get in a workout. There have been times in her life where she’s been working 20-hour days!

To remedy this, Salma worked with a woman in London who taught her more about restorative yoga and activating her muscles throughout the day. Salma uses the techniques she learned to build body awareness and tone her muscles throughout the day.

The way Salma stands and activates her body helps her maintain amazing posture!

SHE STAYS ACTIVE IN HER DAILY LIFE

Salma likes to have fun and enjoy her life! She likes to go rollerblading with friends, and she loves horseback riding. All of this plays a role in leading a healthy lifestyle.

A POSITIVE CELEBRITY

Salma is big about body positivity. She knows what she likes — flavorful juice, travel, animals, good food, and fun experiences — and she makes sure that her life is full of those things.

She also cares about her body, and she makes sure to take care of it by eating a balanced diet and getting exercise, even if she doesn’t always want to. I respect this approach to fitness!

Salma seems like a wonderful woman and a fitness inspiration! I really enjoyed discovering more about her lifestyle and approach to wellness.

I appreciate that you are using celebs to show what can be physically possible, but in all honesty it is not always truthful since many use various cosmetic procedures to achieve what we all see. I worked for a plastic surgeon when I was in my twenties and saw this first hand, so I know this tp be true. Giving young girls the workout and diet tips is not the whole truth in most cases and can be misleading. Just my two cents.

Ana - Lean Legs Support says:

      Hey lovely,

Thank you so much for your input! :)

I can’t disagree because you are right – a lot of them have at least some work done.
But what Rachael cares about and promotes is a healthy lifestyle and habits. :)
It is a must for these celebrities to eat well and work out in order to maintain the looks they have. :)
We also always communicate with young girls who reach out about the importance of fully developing into a young woman before starting to worry about their figure. :)

      Love,
      Ana
