Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall has always looked amazing. After all, she was in one of the most iconic TV shows of the early 2000s! She’s in her 60s now, but she is just as gorgeous as ever.

With the announcement of the Sex and the City revival show coming out, I knew I needed to do some digging into the diet and workout routines of the original stars.

Kim won’t be in the revival, but it was so fun to learn about her diet and workout routine anyway. :)

Before we jump straight to Kim Cattrall’s diet and workout routine, I just wanted to mention something I believe it’s important. When I say diet, I usually don’t mean “a specific diet someone follows for weight loss”. I usually mean – someone’s nutrition in general.

Occasionally, some of the celebrities I write about do follow a specific diet for weight loss reasons or to help them with some health issues.

Normally, I personally don’t diet for weight loss reasons. I prefer to eat intuitively and I find that it works great for me :)

Now, I do have to follow a specific, restrictive diet because I’m still breastfeeding and my baby girl has a lot of food allergies and tummy issues. But as I said, in general I don’t diet and I don’t think women should feel pressured to do it.

Some of my clients, mainly endomorph women, follow low carb diets for weight loss reasons and this works for them. However, I’ve seen women get amazing results by just eating healthy without any other special restrictions.

So my advice is – Do whatever works for you best and what makes you feel good. :)

And here’s what what works for Kim Cattrall:

Kim Cattrall’s Diet

Kim likes to joke that she’s been on a diet since 1974. She says that she has always had to be very careful about what she eats because she is not naturally thin. If she wants to keep her weight down, she needs to make sure that she isn’t constantly overeating or eating a lot of unhealthy treats.

For Kim, this diet is more about a way of life, rather than being super obsessive over what she eats and drinks. She wants to feel good, and she knows counting every single bite isn’t sustainable long term.

At the same time, she also knows that regular desserts (her go-to is chocolate!) and alcoholic drinks won’t make her feel good either.

Kim enjoys eating food but she also really loves to cook too. She says she likes to eat almost anything, especially if it is homemade. Her kitchen specialty? Pasta with garlic, dry herbs, stewing meat, and vegetables.

She Likes the Perricone Diet

Although Kim tries not to be too strict with her dieting, she is a big fan of the Perricone diet, which she says has helped give her youthful skin for so long.

The Perricone diet was started by a dermatologist, and it isn’t really focused on losing weight. Instead, you focus on reducing your body’s inflammation. This, supposedly, helps slow down ageing.

In the Perricone diet, participants are supposed to focus on eating foods full of antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids. Some of the most common foods are:

  • Berries
  • Cold-water fish, like salmon
  • Olive oil
  • Leafy greens, like spinach and kale
  • Eggs

You’re also supposed to avoid foods that can cause inflammation, especially saturated fats, sugars, alcohol, bread, beef, and cheese.

Kim really enjoys cooking and she loves making her food taste delicious.

Here are some sample, Perricone-approved meals that Kim might enjoy while she’s following the diet:

Breakfast

Breakfast begins with one a classic breakfast food: eggs. Here’s what she can eat in the morning:

  • Three eggs whites
  • One whole egg
  • Fresh fruit or berries

She drinks a big glass of water before and after finishing up the meal.

Lunch

For lunch, it is time for salmon. Kim can serve that with olive oil and lemon, and enjoy some fresh fruit on the side. Of course, let’s not forget staying hydrated with more water!

Dinner

Dinner is pretty much the same as lunch. People on this diet eat a lot of fish (which Kim says she loves!), so she can enjoy it again for dinner.

Snacks

For snacks, Kim might enjoy:

  • Hazelnuts
  • Chicken breast
  • Plain yogurt
  • Green apples
  • Green tea

Kim’s Workout Routine

Kim is not a big workout junkie. Some days she struggles to get out of bed to see her trainer, but she knows it will be worth it.

Kim’s trainer has her focus on mostly cardio workouts.

Cardio Workouts

Kim exercises every other day, and she wants most of those sessions to be cardio. In other words, she does some form of cardio exercise about 3 to 4 times per week.

Kim’s cardio workouts sometimes look like a 3-mile jog, but she is also satisfied with a long walk instead. She also enjoys swimming. Kim doesn’t want to injure her body by running too much and walks help her get the cardio exercise that she needs.

When she was acting in Sex and the City, Kim put more of an emphasis on doing long, intense aerobic workouts. She would work out really hard prior to filming a season of the show, and then she would have to stop working out during filming due to the busy work schedule.

Unfortunately, overworking her body prior to shooting and then under-working it led her to develop an injury. This is part of why she doesn’t do a lot of intense cardio anymore.

Physiyoga Workout

After her injury, Kim needed to figure out a way to stay fit while also healing her body. She started doing something called “physiyoga,” and says it was life-changing for her.

Physiyoga combines yoga moves with physiotherapy. One session of the routine might involve doing a downward dog, but it would also include massage, adjustments, and meditation.

All instructors are trained in both physiotherapy and yoga, so it tends to be a safe way for people to stretch, especially if they have struggled with injuries in the past. Each session is tailored to the needs of the individual person.

People who do physiyoga say it helps them to strengthen their muscles while also improving their alignment and healing. It can help people rehabilitate after an injury, and some athletes use it as a form of deep stretching.

Focusing on Self-care

Kim is the first person to admit that starring in Sex and the City wasn’t easy. The job required long hours and time away from home, and, at times, it was challenging for Kim’s mental health, physical health, and relationships.

For Kim, success isn’t about perfection. Over the years, she’s worked to find a balance between making a difference through her career and taking care of herself.

She finds ways to relax and do things that make her body feel healthy and rested. I think that’s something we should all strive to do as well!
